In 1914, the civic leaders of a still-young city named Roanoke decided that the western part of Virginia needed a "hometown" insurance company. They turned to Robert Angell, a man whose civic pride had already led him to leadership in many community endeavors, to be the first president of the company they called Shenandoah Life Insurance Company. Today, Shenandoah Life has built on the foundation of our past. Under the leadership of president Robert W.
